What Are Biodegradable Labels Made From?
The label face stock material is made from bagasse, a sugarcane fibre waste product created by the sugar refining industry. Our biodegradable labels are created from a matt white, uncoated, wood-free eco-friendly printing paper which is made from 95% sugarcane fibres and 5% hemp and linen. These environmentally-friendly labels are designed with wine labelling and food packaging in mind, so you can rest assured that the entire packaging is biodegradable, or the if label might come into contact with dry foodstuff this is not a concern.
The sugarcane label material is both eco-friendly and attractive. It also has a bonus of sustainability in the fact that it is not only more eco-friendly to produce than wood-pulp paper but it also biodegrades faster and returns nutrients to the soil. These qualities make it an excellent choice for using to produce compostable packaging and labels.
Sugarcane is a renewable eco-friendly source as it reproduces in cycles of less than one year. In comparison, trees for paper production generally take 7 to 10 years to reach maturity. Deforestation accounts for 20 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. By using sugarcane in place of wood pulp we can lower pollution and preserve forest ecosystems.
Labels made from bagasse require less energy to produce. The waste product has been harvested and collected as part of the sugar industry processes. As fewer steps are needed, sugarcane is less polluting and less fuel intensive than its wood-based alternative. Bagasse is already available in abundance as an agricultural waste product. For every 10 tonnes of sugarcane crushed, a factory will produce nearly 3 tonnes of wet bagasse. Since the waste product already exists, it makes sense to use it in label material production.
What Can Biodegradable Labels Be Used For?
As recycling becomes part of our everyday lives and companies become more environmentally aware, we can now supply a compostable and biodegradable label solution. If you are looking for eco-friendly labels that are made from renewable and sustainable resources then we can help with our range of blank biodegradable labels on A4 sheets. They can be used for the following purposes and more:
Biodegradable labels are perfect for food products, as they are able to come into contact with foodstuff without contaminating it. This is due to the eco-friendly materials the labels are made from, ensuring they are not toxic for humans. Whether you are a company looking to provide more sustainable, environmentally friendly single-use packaging, or a new food company, our labels should work for any application.
Our eco-friendly bio labels are perfect for companies who are transitioning to more biodegradable packaging. Often companies can be dissuaded from using this type of product as it can be exponentially more expensive than regular labels due to the fact they’re made to order, but our biodegradable labels are now held in stock, reducing the overall cost. If you are environmentally conscious and would like to promote sustainability in your business then why not consider using biodegradable and compostable labels. Product packaging can be harmful to the environment and even if you use recycled or biodegradable packaging, you may not have considered that the label attached to that packaging is either non-recycled or may take many years to decompose.
If you’re trying to become a b-corporation company, this could be a step towards this accreditation. Using biodegradable eco-friendly labels shows that you are making a concerted effort to produce as low a footprint as possible and means there is less chance of your company spreading a high amount of waste.
